As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of Seekers Notes, we’re thrilled to bring you a special series of interviews with players from around the world who have made the journey through Darkwood unforgettable. Each Seeker we feature shares their unique stories, memories, and insights about the game and community that have grown so much over the years.
We had the pleasure of chatting with Agathe Pol—a talented player and artist who has been part of the Seekers Notes community since 2021. From her unique Seeker character creation to her heartfelt connection with the game’s storyline and characters, Agathe shares her journey, tips, and memorable moments from Darkwood.
Hi Agathe! To start off, could you tell us a little about yourself and how you found your way into the world of Seekers Notes?
I started getting involved with Seekers Notes beyond simple gaming by drawing art of the characters. I designed and wrote my own Seeker character, and I love writing about the way her abilities work, about her emotional journey into the story of Darkwood, about the bonds between her and the other characters, including a romance I imagined between her and the Informant, who is my favourite character !!
That’s fascinating! What first attracted you to the game?
I first discovered the game through the one, the only, introduction video, as an ad for the game. Obviously the gorgeous, gorgeous visual of the Victorian aesthetic drew me in, but what especially piqued my interest was the concept of the 'Seeker', and I thought it was quite a creative take on the Hidden Object game genre. Once in, I was hooked. The visual graphics, the story, the characters... Pretty much everything shows creativity and beauty.
Over the years, have any particular events or updates stood out as favorites for you?
I honestly have trouble pinpointing an absolute favourite between the updates. My favourite event scenes remain the Campsite and the Seeker's House, I find them to be the coziest. However in terms of storylines, I am always happy when these allow us a glimpse into characters' backstories ; the Boarding House for Adrian Bloom, the Frosty Alley for Ursula Byron, or more recently the Sweet Home for Pete and Nicholas. I also have favourites among the recurring events : Search for the Talisman, Defenders of the Light, Air Races, and Stories of Darkwood. I like experimenting different variations on the regular hidden object game.
What I prefer while playing is to work on the speed at which I play a scene, but sometimes I pause to enjoy the music. As for "engaging", I stopped counting the pages on which I write down storylines, character backstories, and theories...
You clearly have a deep connection to both the gameplay and story! Do you have any strategies or tips you’d like to share with new players?
My main strategy is hoarding like a dragon, to be honest. Take those energy points from guild members' achievements. Use different energy boosters together like a tasty meal (they always make me hungry...). Get friends. Use your wishlist to get objects from collections that give you arrows and bottles, lanterns and clocks. Keep these for Magister's Path to optimize your score even if you don't have time to play a lot. Keep the Blacksmith, Inventor and Fortune teller busy. Click on your trophies. Watch that daily ad for the free ruby. Clear the cache on your device before installing a new update.
And remember : this is all a game !! No need to stress because you cannot do thousands of points for your guild or because you were this close to finish an event. There are plenty occasions to do better, and you focus on having fun.
How has playing Seekers Notes impacted you personally—any connections or skills you’ve developed?
I first would like to make a little shoutout to my guildmates from the French and French-Canadian guild "La bienveillance" who are the sweetest, and most welcoming people I could run into. Even if we run into disagreements, especially on the "remember this is a game" part, making up is always the chosen option.
I also made dear friends by posting on my blog about my gaming and about my stories involving my Seeker character and the Informant. Most are not Seekers Notes players and had never heard of the game before, and got invested in the little romance I imagined !! I met a few players as well, and I'm very happy we get to discuss about storylines, theories and gaming experience.
Are there any particular moments or achievements in the game that hold a special place for you?
I managed to completely finish exactly one update event, and that was Mystery of the Wilderness. Still very proud of it. I never have the time or mental energy to fully complete an event like this otherwise. I will probably not repeat the experience.
Other than the gameplay aspect, interactions with the characters are memorable to me. I have a fondness for them, yes, even for Carl Delacroix, in its own way. I would love to have most of them as friends ; tea after an archery session with Helen, an unexpected adventure with Anna, playing in the treehouse with Ben...
I mentioned the Informant earlier, and he does have a special place in my heart. I hold a lot of love and affection for him, granted he is a fictional character. We have many similarities, his way of being makes me smile, and his story touches me deeply. I hope nothing but happiness for him in the end.
How important has the community been to your Seekers Notes experience?
I appreciate a lot, and I believe I am not alone in this matter, that the Seekers Notes team works on creating and maintaining a discussion with the community, whether it is through little games or sneak peeks into the backstage, or the usually quick reactions if someone encounters a bug or other problem.
Keeping contact with other players makes for a fun experience, whether with guildmates or friends, or people you discuss a storyline theory with online.
I like sharing my fan art, and finding a public, no matter small, is encouraging.
With the 10th anniversary coming up, what are your hopes for the future of Seekers Notes and its community?
I have had a good experience with the game so far, and I simply believe it will continue this way. I and other players regularly send suggestions and ideas to the community team, mostly through the surveys, and I hope they will continue being heard, especially in cases of recurring demands.
Finally, do you have any parting words or messages for fellow Seekers?
I simply tip my top hat to you all as I say :
"Good luck, Seeker !!"
