Green Game Jam: Meet the Seekers Making a Difference

We asked members of the Seekers Notes community to share how they help the environment and support charities. The responses we received were inspiring, practical, and full of heart - from releasing rescued owls to planting flowers for bees, from classroom gardens to feeding strays.

SnowyOwl (Maine, US, level 462): Bird-lover and Avian Haven volunteer who helps rehabilitate and release wild birds - her Barred Owl release is the stuff of heartwarming stories.

snowyowl.jpg

"My game name is SnowyOwl, and I’m from the state of Maine in the US. I’ve played Seekers Notes for 3 years and am currently at level 462. I support a non-profit called Avian Haven, which is a bird rehab center. I’ve been a bird watcher since a little girl, and my volunteer work with Avian Haven allows me to work with birds! A favorite memory is releasing a rehabilitated Barred Owl back into the wild (see photo). Barred Owls are typically released back to the area where they were found when injured.

Advise I would give to other Seekers: Try to match your volunteer hours to something you enjoy. The time will fly (pun intended!)."

Lego (Greece, level 648): Reforestation and pollinator champion who plants flowers for bees, upcycles clothes, and helped start her town’s first school recycling program as a teen.

lego.jpg

"My name is Lego, and I have been playing SN for 4 years and 8 months. I am in level 648 and keep seeking new adventures. I live in Greece in a town less than 2 hours from Athens. My country has suffered from big fires for many years, so I started reforestation as a student, and I am still participating. This time of the year, I am planting my flowers to help bees find pollen as they are traveling on summer days. My environmental awareness started in my early school days when we went for a study (4 days like a field trip) in a village with water sources and were asked to do proposals for the proper use of water.

My great achievement was when I was 15 years old and with a classmate were writing persistent at the city council and the government to help us do the first recycling project in my town, in my school. They sent us a foot-operated machine that was for pressing aluminum cans. Funny for nowadays, so every day my friend and I had to stay one hour or two after school to press all the aluminum cans, and every 3 months a truck took them to Athens.

Right now, I am recycling plastic bottles and glass and almost all my trash. I believe everyone can do small things like supporting charity shops, and I am buying accessories from recycled plastic. Reusing or manufacturing clothes is my hobby for making presents. Processing any content is an eco-friendly move, so much on this earth..."

Penny Dent (UK, level 464): Canine Concern volunteer with five Border Collies who brings therapy dogs into schools - living sustainably with mindful swaps and local choices.

Penny Dent.jpg

"Hi, my name is Penny Dent, and I live in Milton Keynes in the UK. I've been playing Seekers Notes for over six years (level 464), and I love it. I run a small, friendly, supportive guild who are kind to each other. My elder son is a passionate vegan, and I'm proud to have raised him to care so much about the environment. I still eat meat but try to make sure it is locally sourced and ethically farmed, as with the other food I eat. I'm fanatical about recycling and try not to fill my house with things I don't need. We run an electric car and no longer take long-haul flights. I know it's not much, but even small acts can make a difference. I'm so pleased that we no longer have plastic straws - so many plastic products are being replaced now, and I love that.

The charity I belong to is Canine Concern, which supports therapy dogs. My five Border Collies are a big part of my life, and taking them into school to help children with anxiety or low self-esteem is very important to me.

As I've said, even small actions can make a difference. Try refilling water bottles with tap water? Use bamboo toothbrushes and unbleached bamboo toilet rolls? Or let your garden go a bit wild to allow wildlife to thrive! I'm really proud of the way I am letting go of having everything the way I want it and listening to what the planet needs."

Rosie (Idaho, USA, level 855): The friendly smile at the school bus stop - Rosie has volunteered for years, keeping kids safe each morning and brightening their day.

rosie.jpg

"Hello, fellow Seekers, I am RosieAA_GOLD_THREAD. I'm from Southeast Idaho, USA. I've played Seekers Notes for 6 years and 9 months, and my current level is 855. I've always lived by the motto "reduce, reuse, recycle, help those in need," so as an adult, I volunteer at a local public school and donate to local charities for redistribution within the community.

As far back as I can remember, we were taught that it was our job to protect the earth, help others in need, and give back to our community. As a parent I knew that children would feel safer at school if there was a familiar, caring person there every day with a friendly smile, always willing to listen and help when needed which prompted 11 consecutive years volunteering at the local school each morning helping make sure the children changing buses get safely to their school, 3 years volunteering after school doing traffic safety control for buses and students.

My proudest memories are also bittersweet; each spring, I have students who are graduating come tell me that I made their day, helped them feel safer, and made high school better with my smile and wave each morning.

My advice for new players or players that need help is to join a guild if you haven't already & use the guild chat, follow Seekers Notes official Facebook group, and use the in-game Help & Support search mode."

Evi (Greece, level 919): Stray-feeder and recycler with a soft spot for animals - once rescued a newborn kitten and walked kilometres to get it the care it needed.

evi.jpg

"My name is Evi, both in game and in real life. I'm Greek, and I've been playing Seekers Notes for about 6 years now. I think I have not yet missed a full gaming day, even though my own language is not included in the list of languages available to play. My current level is 919, and I'm looking forward to joining the "big boys league" 😉

I am helping to feed the numerous strays in my country and trying to responsibly recycle. When you see those eyes looking at you and wagging tails in trust of humanity, your only option is to give them some love, even if it's just to pet them for a while or in the form of food/water if you can't afford to adopt another one! As for the recycling part, it's the only responsible thing to do in order to keep this planet "alive" for the generations to come.

I found a newborn kitten in my apartment building's basement. I thought its voice came from outside the window, only to realise it was trapped down there, having lost touch with its mommy. I fed it and put some water down there, then waited a few hours to see if, by any chance, its mom left it there to keep it safe until she returned. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. It was Saturday, so I didn't have the luxury of time to wait any longer because the vets would close for the weekend. So I grabbed it, put it by my heart to keep it safe and warm, and walked a few kilometres to the only vet I knew. She helped me take care of the little one, fed it, and gave it some meds and its first vaccine. A few days later, we found a real home for it. I can't even begin to describe how happy and proud of myself I felt knowing it had a chance in life... I was barely 19 at the time (now 44), never turned my head away from another creature on my way since.

My advice for fellow Seekers - start where you can. The opportunities are always right in front of our eyes. Carrying a bottle of water with you at all times, even if it's just tap water, especially during summer, could save a life... I consider it to be a good and easy start for anyone 🙂"

Diane (California, USA, level 558): Elementary teacher who turns classrooms into hands-on environmental labs - wheelbarrow gardens, tortoise Leota, and salmon releases included.

Diane.jpg

"Hello, my name is Diane Farley, and my Seeker name is McCoy (my beloved Dog’s name). I am from California, and have played Seekers Notes for 8 years, achieving a level of 558. I am the leader of the Guild Destiny Seekers.

As an Elementary Teacher, I have taught many environmental topics that reflect my own lifestyle, including annual classroom wheelbarrow gardening, planting trees on Arbor Day, weekly trash pick up, raising a classroom pet tortoise, and raising Salmon from eggs that were released into the local river.

The excitement from my students inspired me to add more hands-on learning opportunities to the curriculum. It made me proud when my students would bring in their families or students from other classrooms to share and explain what they were doing to help the environment.

I have gained a lot of knowledge about playing Seekers Notes through experience and friends sharing ideas. One tip I would add that perhaps hasn’t already been said is that if players are searching for Winding Keys or Diagrams, playing the Anonymous Alliance game will often give them to you."

Wanderer (Arizona, USA, level 268): City-dweller who goes car-free, recycles, and supports local farmers markets every Saturday - small choices, big impact.

wanderer 1.jpg

"I currently live in Arizona, but I grew up on a 1970s commune in Virginia. I guess I downloaded Seekers Notes 5 years ago but I only started playing April 2025 and am now level 268. I help the environment by using public transportation only, recycling, and buying delicious local organic produce at a farmers' market every Saturday. I grew up on a rural commune where we mostly ate organic food we grew ourselves and were taught to care about the environment. As an adult I always live in cities, where public transportation is an obvious good. I feel proud every time the local air quality app suggests driving less to reduce ozone - I don't drive at all!

My advice for fellow Seekers would be - consider finding a local farmers market, or just a local coffee roaster or baker you can support. It's good for the environment and your local economy."

Julie (Brisbane, Level 195) - Practical eco-doer who makes easy swaps (reusable cup, bottle), recycles electronics and shoes, and donates glasses to people who need them.

julie 1.jpg

"My IRL name is Julie, but my in-game name is Jem. I live in Brisbane, Australia, and I have been playing Seekers Notes for almost 2 years, and I am currently on Level 195. How I try to help the environment - I use a reusable coffee cup & water bottle; take unused or expired medications to a pharmacy for them to dispose of properly; recycle bottles & cans with my neighbours for bin coin as it's called in the advertising campaign here; recycle old batteries, charging cables, usb's, pens, electronic devices; give old prescription glasses to an organisation that sends them overseas; old 'dead' (unwearable) shoes to a store for recycling; catch public transport as much as my allergies & asthma allow; and donate wearable clothes, shoes & other things to local church op shops.

What inspired me to start doing this - seeing people I know (friends, family) changing habits - using reusable water. It made me realise that I could do that too.

A short moment or memory from my "work" that made me proud - Realising that the glasses that I donated will be used by people in a country where the people need them and don't have access to them.

A simple tip that I can give to any Seekers Notes player who wants to help the environment, but they're not sure where to start: Buy a reusable water bottle and a reusable coffee cup (can be used for hot tea or hot chocolate too). Start with one thing, and the rest will follow."
